Just One Question - Dr. John R. Scibel

Dr. John R. Scibal, how has MediNotes affected your practice?

MediNotes has enabled us to be paperless since 1990. Our office had been heavily computerized prior to that with respect to patient accounts and billing, appointment scheduling, and eyeglass and contact lens tracking, but the final step was instituting electronic health records. At the time, there was very little formal training offered, but we still had a relatively easy time converting from paper to computer records, phased over a period of about 90 days.
There are numerous advantages to EHR, but the three that impact us the most on a daily basis are simply having all the charts available with the click of a mouse to all staff members, the ability to instantly generate a referral or consultation letter, and the E&M coding wizard, which uses bullet points from the medical encounter to determine the appropriate coding level. And more that any other program I have seen, MediNotes is by far the most customizable, and easily allows for changes "on the fly", making for fast and accurate clinical records.
