New Doctor Goal: Cut Patient Suffering Caused By Care

Doctors are striving to ease suffering caused my medical care. So reports The New York Times.

A pilot program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center sought to quantify what makes patients suffer. The researchers sent surveys to patients and found that patients reported suffering from more than the illness itself. Often the actual medical care made them suffer more than the illness.

The researchers found that poor bedside manner and other problems with communication were the number one thing that made patients suffer. Additionally, things like long waits, and lack of privacy also caused patients to suffer.
