Tech Tip: Dictate Directly to EMRs

Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2 is a documentation solution for small medical practices (those with 24 or fewer physicians).

Many doctors are familiar with Dragon’s line of dictation software. In Medical Practice Edition 2, all the features of Dragon dictation software is integrated into a physician’s existing electronic medical record.

This allows doctors to dictate information directly into their electronic health record system, instead of relying on drop down boxes and existing verbiage. With Dragon, doctors can use their own words to describe a patient encounter.

Dragon Medical Practice Edition 2 eliminates turn around time and transcription costs. It also lets doctors remain 100% focused on the patient during the exam, rather than pecking at the keyboard to enter information into the electronic health record. Doctors can even turn their phone or Android device into microphone to do the dictation.

Dragon bills this edition as its most accurate and speedy release to date. It offers vocabulary for 90 medical specialties. In terms of accuracy, it has improved regional accent recognition. Plus, it will automatically detect poor audio input and alert the user so there is no garbled dictation.

With additional handy features, such as its Hidden Mode, which lets doctors dictate anywhere in the EHR, they no longer have to navigate between the screens and the notes window.

It also has a mode that lets users dictate while looking at results, images etc. In this mode, the dictation appears transparently above their clinical system.

It is compliant with HIPAA’s patient confidentiality guidelines. Dragon Medical Practice Edition works with Windows systems.
