Doctors face an enormous challenge, how to keep up with all the research and data in their field, not to mention finding the time to keep abreast of the latest developments in medical technology.  Here are a few hints that make it possible for a busy doctor to keep up with all of the advances, without spending a lot of precious time.

Medical journals have always provided physicians with information on emerging treatments and case studies of diseases.  Unfortunately, it can be very time consuming to go through all the journals, which means this task usually fall to the bottom of a doctors to do list.  Now websites, such as, Modern Medicine.com allow the physician to customize email alerts.  When the information that most pertains to your specialty or practice is available, you get an email and can quickly click to read the article.

Several medical journals including New England Journal of Medicine and the American Journal of Medicine now send out the table of contents for each issue allowing you to see at a glance what articles are relevant to you.  Since the issues are all online, you can click over to read the articles at your convenience and do not have a pile of unread journals clogging up your desk.

Using an online drug and formulary reference tool like Epocrates allows a doctor to have a major reference tool available anytime, anywhere.  Eporcrates constantly updates their index of information.  Alerts regarding drug recalls and safety alerts are sent automatically. Since Epocrates is wireless device friendly, so this handy guide is at your fingertips at all times.

Many websites and blogs allow you to subscribe to an RSS feed, which is a way to receive updates to be delivered directly to you.  You customize exactly what sources you want to be updated on; you no longer have to check back at your favorite news site or blog to find the latest posts.  Now the news that interests you the most is delivered right to you, allowing you to stay abreast of the latest development.  No more time spent searching the internet for pertinent news.

Advances in technology have afforded doctors the ability to stay more informed on topics without having to spend more time researching them.  Having customized information delivered right to your inbox greatly reduces the stress a doctor feels trying to stay on top of everything.
