Mass. Hospital Receives HIPAA Fine

A Massachusetts hospital is facing a large fine for violating HIPAA policy. So reports Healthcare IT News.

The Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital (BIDH) must pay the state $100,000 for a HIPAA violation that occurred on a doctor's unsecured laptop. The unencrypted laptop was stolen, putting 4,000 BIDH patient's information at risk. In addition, the hospital didn't inform patients of the breach until three months after the breach occurred.
