Students Design Kidneys for 3-D Printing

Chemical engineering students at the University of Connecticut have developed 3D printable prototypes for fully-functioning artificial kidneys. So reports Nature World News.

The kidneys were part of a senior design project and were created in partnership with a commercial design 3-D printing company. Using 3-D printing for medical applications allows the organs to be produced with patient specific customizations.
