Despite Improper Coding or Missing Documentation Medicare Pays Out

A new report by the Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services shows Medicare improperly paid $6.7 billion in 2010. So reports USA Today.

The payments were made despite the visits being improperly coded or lacking documentation. The investigation found that of claims submitted 42% of those for diagnostic and assessment visits were improperly coded and 19% were simply improperly documented.
