Medical Center Employee Email Leads to HIPAA Breach

Patients of the Regional Medical Center in Memphis received notification that their information was compromised, reports Government Health IT.

The medical center contacted 1,200 patients to inform them of the HIPAA breach. The breach occurred because an employee sent out three unsecure emails that contained the patients’ protected health information and Social Security numbers.
