The MCA Advantage

Mobile Clinical Assistants or MCA are streamlining the interaction between patients and care provider. This little gadget houses everything necessary to document, diagnose and treat a patient. While it is a real powerhouse, it is in a slim, lightweight form. Generally, these tablets weigh in at about 3lbs. Easy enough to carry around throughout your day.

Plus, the Mobile Clinical Assistants are made of impact resistant plastic, which is easily wiped all over, to ensure they are properly disinfected. Since they are expected to perform for an entire shift they come with a battery that has an extremely long life. But just in case, the battery does need to be replaced, the MCA's are designed for quick battery change outs.

Another thing the designers took into consideration; that doctors and nurses do not have time to navigate a complex user interface while they are dealing with patients, so the user interfaces on the Mobile Clinical Assistants are simple to use.

Taking advantage of the MCA wireless connectivity allows a nurse or physician to instantly access the patient's medical history, at the patient's bedside. This can significantly reduce the administrative workflow, streamline the charting process and in some cases eliminate double documentation.

Some models such as the Motion C5 use the Bluetooth technology to capture the patient's vital signs and store them in their electronic chart.

Some facilities have even integrated the use of the RFID scanner. Scanning a patient's barcode can ensure that you are adhering to the 5 rights of medication administration: right drug, right patient, right dosage, right route and right time.

Amazingly enough, even though the Motion C5 is so compact, it manages to include a digital camera to document wounds or any other aspect of the patients care.  These images are saved in the patient's electronic chart. An easy way to see if a patient is making progress. These images may even be shared/transferred making it possible to consult with other doctors or specialists.

As patient data security is always foremost in doctor's minds the C5 offers a biometric fingerprint reader or a user may authenticate via badge scan with the RFID reader. The C5's Trusted Platform Module helps protect against inappropriate data transfers.
