Electronic Health Records with a Wave of a Wand

A recent poll by the Physicians Consulting Network revealed that 27% of physicians own an iPad or similar device. With that in mind, many vendors are launching iPad applications geared towards physicians.

The latest release from Allscripts is Wand, a native iPad application that offers mobile access to the most commonly used functions of its Allscripts Professional and Enterprise technologies.

Wand is designed to streamline workflow and offers doctors fast access to data. It gives users easy, on-the-go access to the electronic health record features they use the most. Wand has an interface that allows physicians to view a timeline of key patient information, such as lab results, medications, vitals, and more.

With Wand, doctors can view a chart on their way to the exam room and during the exam, they can enter real-time information, such as vitals and medications. Plus, Wand gives doctors access to the electronic health record information they need even after-hours.

In addition, doctors can review appointment lists and current patient status. Wand lets doctors retrieve patient data quickly, and it gives them the ability to add or update clinical information for a patient (allergies, history, immunizations, problems, medications).

From Wand, doctors can e-prescribe with electronic transmission to pharmacies, resolve tasks and respond to messages with a swipe of the screen. Data remains secure with an SSL certificate, which is created automatically by Allscripts and installed behind the scenes.

Plus, no patient data is stored on the iPad itself. The app is available for users of Allscripts Professional and Enterprise electronic health records. They can download the app from iTunes.
