How to Save Time on Continuing Education

Continuing medical education is a requirement for physicians, but finding the time to attend conferences or participate in classes is often extremely hard.

Services such as MedPage Today bring continuing medical education to the doctor.  Co-developed by the Office of Continuing Medical Education at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, MedPage combines information and breaking medical news with an opportunity to earn continuing medical education credits.

Each article includes a summary and actionable information to ensure the medical professional fully understands the implications of the news development. MedPage Today also places a special emphasis on topics reported in the consumer media.

With MedPage, physicians have access to all the relevant information needed to address their patient’s questions. MedPage employs a team of experienced medical editors and writers to gather the MedPage Today articles. The articles are reviewed by a team of physicians under the direction of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Office of Continuing Medical Education.

There is no cost associated with earning the continuing medical education credits and the process is quite simple. In order to receive the continuing medical education credits, the doctor or nurse must register with MedPage Today and, after reviewing an article, they must complete a posttest.

Nurses may receive credits upon completing the posttest following each CE article. All other healthcare professionals will receive a Certificate of Participation after completing the posttest. Physicians may receive 0.25 AMA PRA Category 1 credits for each News CE article completed. Nurses may receive 1.0 contact hour for every sixty minutes of learning they complete (which is equivalent to an average of about two articles).

A built-in continuing medical education tracker makes it easy to keep track of the credits earned. A CE tracker keeps track nurse’s CE credits. A Certificate Tracker keeps track of all of the Certificates of Participation for all other healthcare professionals.

A printout of each certificate can be ordered at the time of completion or a complete print out of the log is available at anytime. MedPage Today is available for PC and it is available as app for iPhone and iPad.
